I witnessed a very cool thing this morning. For one I did not sleep great last night as my bed is as hard as a rock. I’ll get used to it tho. Two, it is absolutely beautiful here in the mornings! Seriously, the weather is just lovely. It got dark around 8:30 last night and daybreak began about 6:30. The wildlife here make the sights and sounds come to life. Lizards and monkeys make their rounds around the campus making their presence known when they see you coming. Birds singing in the morning provides multiples tunes to wake up to. I wish I knew what all the birds were called but I do know they are even raising birds here. They have a couple of turkeys and ducks and several other caged birds along with parakeets and doves. Finding a bench under a tree and having my quiet time this morning was a breeze. I believe I will be reading through 1 Thessalonians for a week or two. It is not long, but the spiritual truths in it are deep. Hearing Paul speak through this letter is like a son hearing his father’s voice as the father gives him a lesson on life.
The third really cool thing I was able to witness early this morning was a group of boys setting up the place of worship. Americans are so spoiled! Their building is open air and has fans above them to stir the air. When they are not gathered together they pull up the mats they sit on. Then on Sunday mornings this group of boys, led by a college age guy, sweep the flloor including the ground around the building. They make certain all the loos sand is off the floor and that all the leaves and sticks are swept into piles from the ground around them. The real treat came next as they prepared the mats. One main mat was slung across the floor in a perfectly straight line perpendicular to the stage. Then many mats were laid horizontally working off of that one straight mat. Everything they did was done with precision. The college age guy would not approve until everything was just right. When it was done there was a near perfect square made on the floor for people to sit on. I know personally I despise moving even a few chairs back at home. It seems like a lot of work and that I shouldn’t be the one to have to do it. These boys took pride in their work and enjoyed themselves while they were serving.
I have two hours before the worship service begins. I can’t wait to be blown away by the style of worship I will certainly experience. On a personal not I feel well. The food has not upset my stomach yet. IT is spicy that is for sure. But it is a good spicy and manageable if you eat it properly. I will certainly get my fill of white rice and some type of stew over it. Their bread is fresh made and really sweet. Then they gave me some concoction that she told me was even sweeter. I am learning not to ask a lot of questions and simply do what I am told:) I did ask about the water tho and learned that all water on the campus has been purified and is safe to drink.
I posted a few pics in my last post. Uploading photos is difficult and slow here so I cannot promise that I will post photos with each post. I will do the best I can tho
